Research on Design and Optimization of Large Metal Bipolar Plate Sealing for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

The sealing system, as the most important load-bearing component, is a critical part of stack assembly in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). Currently, flat or single-peak gaskets are commonly used for large metal bipolar plate sealing, which can easily cause problems such significant internal stress and distortion displacement. In order to solve this problem, an innovative double-peak gasket structure proposed. Based on Mooney–Rivlin constitutive model, impact material hardness, friction coefficient, compression ratio performance investigated. Meanwhile, seal fabricated assembled into single testing. results show that with extended wings has been optimized, maximum contact pressure upper lower surfaces 1.2 MPa 0.67 MPa, respectively, greater than given air 0.1 MPa. And effect optimal 45 Shore A hardness rubber, coefficient 0.05, initial 35%. simulation experimental under different ratios remain similar.
